Post subject:  Gauges for System Monitoring
Hi,

Can this graphic be used for creating a whole set of system monitoring widgets?

I'm not really sure about the design.
Maybe the numbers should read 10, 20, 30 .... 100?
Maybe the strokes are too strong?
Maybe the needle needs to be sharper at the end?
Maybe the last strokes should be grey as well instead of orange?

I was thinking of the following gauges:

• CPU Load
• CPU Temperature
• RAM Usage
• HDD Usage (for each HDD / SDD / USB Key one gauge)
• Download Speed
• Upload Speed

Important is a smooth (not jumpy) movement of the needle.

Ok, I have been told that I need the following graphics:

• a background base
• a needle
• a center circle (of the needle)
• a scale / line numbers

I will try to get this done.
If I come up with the required graphics, can someone help me creating this widget please?

Hi,

I have asked the creator of the gauge whether I could have the single graphics.
He replied yesterday, that he will have to look for them, but they are in cpt-Format.
Can you use them for xwidget or do they have to be converted into a particular format?

Hi,

I have received the cpt-File. It's only 692 KB large.
Have tried to read it with IrfanView but it didn't work.
Would anyone be able to read the file?

... es scheint ja nicht so einfach zu sein CPT-Dateien zu bearbeiten ...
Vielleicht kannst Du denjenigen, von dem Du die CPT-Datei hast, fragen, ob er sie für Dich aus seinem Programm heraus in einem für Dich bearbeitbaren Dateiformat exportieren würde? "Paint-ShopPro" exportiert z.B.:
BMP, CAL, CALS, CLP, CUT, DCX, DIB, EMF, EPS, AI, PS, GIF, HDP, WDP, IFF, IMG, JP2, J2C, J2K, JPC, JPX, JPG, JIF, JPE, JPEG, MAC, MSP, PBM, PCX, PGM, PIC, PPM, PNG, PSD, PSP (PSP IMAGE FILES), RAS, RAW, RIF, RIFF, RLE, SCT, CT, JPS, PNS, TGA, TIF, TIFF, WBMP, WBM, WEBP, WMF

der Autor hatte mir die CPT Datei mit folgender Bemerkung zugesand:

Da ich die Datei weder mit IrfanView noch mit Photo-Scape öffnen konnte, habe ich ihn nun gebeten, sie auf PNG zu konvertieren.
Jemand im ComputerBase Forum hat mir parallel dazu zugesagt, eine Vektorgrafik (SVG) nach meinen Vorstellungen anzufertigen.
Ich habe von Grafikbearbeitung nur wenig Ahnung, muß mich aber bald mal wirklich näher damit beschäftigen.

Hi Dagedee,

ich habe gestern die Grafiken im png-Format erhalten.
jimging wäre bereit dazu, daraus ein funktionierendes Widget zu machen.
Wenn alles klappt, ist es bald fertig.

Inzwischen habe ich auch die o.a. Vorabversion von einem online-Freund erhalten. Er hat die Grafik genauso umgesetzt, wie ich es beschrieben habe - einfach fantastisch. Es sieht wie eine konsequente Weiterentwicklung der Grafik aus Posting #1 aus, mit einer feineren Skala und einer dünneren Nadel (inklusive Nadelspitze) - beides sogar mir leichtem 3D Effekt. Er hatte mich gefragt in welchem Format ich es gerne hätte. Habe ihm geantwortet, daß png ausreichend wäre. Keine Ahnung ob der Xwidget-Designer mit SVG überhaupt umgehen kann.

Hi Cov,
... bin ja echt gespannt auf Dein erstes Widget! :D
Für die Widgets braucht man hauptsächlich PNG-Bilder, die unterstützen auch Transparenz. Wenn Du an Deinem Widget hinsichtlich der Farbe, Größe etc. noch was ändern willst, solltest Du die SVG-Datei auch nehmen. Die kannst Du mit Inkscape s.o. öffnen und bearbeiten. Für Dein Widget brauchst Du übrigens für jedes Teil das irgendwas machen soll, ein einzelnes PNG-Bild. Die Nadel muss z.B. ein einzelnes Bild sein, "50%" darf nicht draufstehen - das macht man dann im XWidget-Designer. Ich fand es zu Anfang ganz hilfreich mir die Standard-Widgets (Eker-Widgets) genauer anzusehen. Da braucht man eigentlich nur die Bilder auszutauschen und schon hat man ein eigenes Widget ... :)
