Hi Tony and JimKing,

I've played around with XWidget for some years now, and when I acquired an android tablet, (Amazon's HD10, rooted), I decided to give XWidget for Android a go. I've had a great time building widgets with a steamy slant, and for the most part, things work just great. I build on my PC and then send the finished widget to my tablet.

The difficulty I'm running into, though, has to do with knowing my limits. For instance, I created a lovely widget to measure cpu cores via progress bars. I decided to use a thumb image, instead of an actual bar. It works just great on my computer, but on my tablet, it just sits there. The editor on the tablet doesn't even offer thumb images, so I'm confused. I thought if I could make an android widget on my PC, it would surely work when I moved it to my android device. Obviously, I'm missing something, and since there are no manuals, I decided to ask you to clarify for me, whether or not I should be using the PC editor or not.

If I can use the PC editor, could you explain how I can tell if what I'm building is going to work? I mean, if what I built isn't allowed on Android, then why do I have the tools?

Thanks for any help you can provide. Oh, and just to be sure we're on the same page, I build my widgets for my tablet using the Android switch that's in the PC editor, and only use the cores that are provided there.

Best regards,
Kiapan

EDIT: I've done some more troubleshooting, and there are two things - thumbs are not seemingly supported, and neither are individual cpu cores. Is that right? And if so, why are they listed as tools we can use to build widgets for Android devices? Is this to make room for updates?

Finally, is this app going to be an ongoing project for you, one that will continue to be updated to match what your pc editor indicates are valid tools for android?

Thanks again.

Hello Kiapan,
Yes the thumb option is not supported yet on Android.
Surely we continue to update our app porting more stuff from the pc version.
Personally I always use the pc editor to create Android widgets, and then I moved them to my phone.
More info and details you can find in the Tutorial section.
I wrote them by myself as clear as possible :
viewforum.php?f=23

PS
I can help you more presenting your widget/s and guide you in a more practical way..

Oh, hello Jim!

I think you and Tony are doing a wonderful job, and sincerely, I don't know what my tablet and I would do without you! In fact, were it not for a cpu measuring gauge I built, I'd never have known that I'd disabled something my system relied on! I could go on and on about how XWidget has really improved my Android experiences! I'd say the same of the PC version, but I became a Rainmeter fan long ago, and I still find it to be wonderful for PC systems.

In any case, I wanted you to know that yes indeed, I'd already read over all of your tutorials, and they had been quite helpful. What I was struggling with, was my assumption that if something was listed in the editor, after pressing the "Android" button, was a valid option or not. I understand now, and look forward to all of Tony's updates! Send him my best, if you will.

Best regards,
Kiapan

Yes, by pressing the Android button in the designer, you will be able to see which options, components, tagcodes and cores are supported on Android. If you need any help just ask.. :)
Thanks again for your support!

Regards
