Here is my old Steampunk Speedfan Temperature Gauge Yahoo Widget being translated into an Xwidget.



About 50% complete so far.

The above is an actual screenshot from the working Xwidget, it is now about 60% complete, my widgets tend to have a lot of functionality.

Finding some bugs/inconsistencies in the implementation of Tony's javascript code and some problems with Windows 10 not allowing some functions to operate. I wanted to open the speedfansens.cfg file in order to extract the names of the sensors from speedfan, then I would be able to name the sensors.

At the moment the xwidget engine does not name the sensors and so it merely names them temp1...temp7. This is not good as the names of the sensors are available in the config file. However, Windows NT systems do not allow 3rd party apps to access any config files in the program files folder so the speedfansens.cfg file (or the whole speedfan installation folder) needs to be moved to a location outside of program files...

This should allow the config file to be read. However, Xwidget has a bug in Win10 which does not allow file exists or file read operations - another BUG!

I would user Aria64 which provides sensor names but as it costs $99 (US) that is a complete no-go. Coretemp only tests CPU temperatures so back to speedfan...

I created the widget approximately 70% then gave up as I realised some of the deficiencies of the xwidget engine make it pointless to continue, in particular progress bars and the lack of textual drop-down boxes make it all like too much hard work. Lots needs to be fixed before this engine can be considered usable.

Nope sorry, I have abandoned Xwidgets. Frustrating and not a pleasure to work with. Always blockages at every step. Not easy to create. Incomplete documentation and limitations everywhere. Widgets are dead anyway. Time to move on.
